Head of Civil Service Commends Galaxy Backbone’s Role in Nigeria’s Digital Transformation
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, today lauded Galaxy Backbone (GBB) Limited for its crucial contribution to the Nigerian government’s digitalization efforts.
During a strategic visit to GBB’s National Shared Services Centre (NSSC) and Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, the HCSF witnessed firsthand the agency’s advanced digital infrastructure and expressed strong support for continued collaboration.

Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE), Mr. Adeladan Rafi’u Olarinre, and a delegation of Permanent Secretaries and Directors from the HCSF’s office, the visit included a tour of GBB’s state-of-the-art facilities.
This included the Network Operations Centre (NOC), Security Operations Centre (SOC), and the Uptime Institute Certified Tier III Data Centre, all designed to provide a secure, scalable, and sovereign digital infrastructure for Nigeria’s public sector.
Mr. Olarinre emphasized GBB’s critical role in providing core digital infrastructure and shared ICT services, stating, “Today’s visit highlights the significant progress GBB has made in building the infrastructure necessary for a truly digital government.
This engagement will foster stronger collaboration between MDAs and GBB.”
GBB’s Managing Director/CEO, Professor Ibrahim A. Adeyanju, expressed gratitude for the visit, highlighting the alignment with GBB’s mandate to support Nigeria’s digital transformation goals.
He emphasized GBB’s key platforms – the 1Government Cloud, GovMail, and its extensive fiber optic network spanning 28 states – as vital tools for a digitally enabled and efficient government.
Professor Adeyanju further requested increased collaboration to expand the adoption of GBB’s infrastructure, specifically focusing on leveraging existing fiber optic connectivity terminated at Federal Secretariat buildings nationwide and expanding Local Area Networks (LANs) in FCT secretariat buildings.
The HCSF, Mrs. Walson-Jack, praised GBB’s “world-class infrastructure and strategic digital solutions,” stating that the visit “opened [her] eyes to the enormous potential and capacity” of the agency.

She specifically highlighted GBB’s support for the “War Room” initiative, the deployment of GovMail to over 34,000 civil servants, and the high-speed fiber connectivity provided during the 2025 International Civil Service Week.

Reaffirming her commitment to a fully paperless civil service by December 31, 2025, the HCSF identified key areas for enhanced partnership with GBB, including:
* **Full implementation of the 1Government Cloud:** To host and manage MDA operations.
* **Adoption of an Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS):** To streamline records and workflow automation across MDAs.
* **Synergy between the 1Government Cloud Academy and the Civil Service Academy:** To enhance capacity development.
* **Training and onboarding of civil servants:** On innovative tools like Service-Wise GPT, Nigeria’s AI-powered platform for public service delivery.
Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim Sani, GBB’s Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Services, expressed gratitude for the visit and reiterated GBB’s commitment to partnering with stakeholders to deliver inclusive and forward-looking digital solutions for the Federal Government.
