Marwa Urges Youth to Embrace Skills Acquisition, Empowerment Opportunities for a Drug-Free Future

In a powerful address to young Nigerians, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), has implored them to actively pursue skills acquisition and seize empowerment opportunities as a vital shield against substance abuse and other societal ills.

Marwa’s charge came as he served as the Special Guest of Honour at the launch of a youth empowerment and skill acquisition program by the non-governmental organization, Grassroots Bridge Builders, held in Abuja on Thursday.

Marwa lauded the initiative for its alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s “renewed hope agenda,” emphasizing its role in youth empowerment, skills development, job creation, and social inclusion.

He stated that the program’s aim to train and empower 10,000 young Nigerians through practical skills goes beyond mere NGO activity, serving as direct support to governmental efforts to combat unemployment, poverty, drug abuse, and crime.

He specifically commended Grassroots Bridge Builders, noting that their work is not charity but rather an investment in capacity building, character development, and the future protection of Nigerian youth.

Highlighting the collaborative nature of societal problem-solving, Marwa stressed that the fight against drug abuse is a collective responsibility.

He called upon other NGOs, civil society organizations, faith-based groups, community leaders, the private sector, and all well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the initiative by Grassroots Bridge Builders.

The NDLEA boss urged for partnerships to develop and implement programs that equip youth with skills, dignity, purpose, and a sense of belonging, reinforcing that prevention is most effective when communities, organizations, and the government work in unison.

Addressing the youth directly, Marwa declared, “You are not a problem to be managed; you are a solution to be empowered.”

He underscored the importance of their talents, creativity, and resilience in building a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Nigeria.

He encouraged them to embrace such opportunities, steer clear of drugs, and invest in themselves and their nation.

Marwa concluded by assuring his support for all genuine, non-partisan initiatives that foster youth development, skills acquisition, and drug-free communities, in line with national objectives.
