NAN seeks Katsina govt’s intervention against land grabbers
The Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr Ali Muhammad Ali, seeks Katsina State Government to intervene in protecting the agency’s property from the activities of land grabbers.
Ali made the appeal during an interactive session with the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Dr Bala Salisu-Zango, while on an official visit to the agency’s Katsina office.
The NAN boss said the agency was facing challenges relating to some of its properties, including threats from encroachers and land grabbers.
He urged the state government to support efforts aimed at safeguarding NAN’s property in Katsina to enable the agency to continue its operations without hindrance.
He recalled the contributions of notable Katsina indigenes to the growth of journalism in Nigeria, particularly the late Malam Wada Maida, a former Managing Director of NAN.
Ali also highlighted the contributions of generations of journalists from Katsina, noting that the state had continued to produce media professionals making significant impact within and outside Nigeria.
He commended the state government for their support to the media and pledged NAN’s continued commitment to objective and developmental journalism.

Responding, Salisu-Zango assured the managing director of the state government’s continued cooperation with NAN and other media organisations in promoting information dissemination and public enlightenment.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Tukur Dan-Ali, the commissioner lauded NAN’s role as Nigeria’s premier news agency and its contributions to national development through credible and timely reporting.
He assured the NAN management that the concerns raised regarding the agency’s property in the state would be conveyed to the appropriate authorities for consideration and necessary action.
He noted that the state government valued its longstanding relationship with NAN and acknowledged the agency’s role in projecting the activities and achievements of governments at all levels.
The commissioner added that the state remained committed to supporting institutions that contribute to the dissemination of credible information and the promotion of national development.
He commended the NAN MD for his efforts aimed at repositioning the agency and strengthening its capacity to effectively discharge its mandate as the country’s premier news service.
The visit formed part of Ali’s nationwide tour of NAN offices aimed at assessing operational challenges, interacting with staff, stakeholders, and exploring ways of improving the agency’s service delivery across the country.
