75

It has been confirmed that three students of Nasarawa State University, NSUK, tragically lost their lives during a stampede while receiving rice palliative from the state government on Friday in Keffi at the state university.

The incident unfolded at the convocation square where bags of rice were awaiting distribution, as students gathered in anticipation of the arrival of Gov. Abdullahi Sule to commence the distribution.

It will be recalled that few days ago, the governor had distributed same to some tertiary schools, namely, Federal University Lafia, College of Agriculture, Science and Technology lafia, and College of Education Akwanga.

What was supposed to be a day for the state university to participate in the distribution turned tragic, as students overwhelmed the security measures in place, resulting in a stampede that claimed the lives of three individuals and left many others injured.

The management of the university are yet to comment on the ugly situation that greeted the institution meanwhile police officers were seen retrieving the palliatives from students.
