Nigeria vs Ghana: Ex-Super Eagle urges Nigerians to come out in numbers

Mr Oluwafemi Ajilore, an ex-Super Eagles player, has urged Nigerians to come out in large numbers to support the national team in Tuesday’s match against Ghana at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

Ajilore clamoured for such support in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday.

He said that great football matches had excellent and skillful players, coordinated teams, great coaches, vibrant supporters, great pitches and others.

According to him, Nigerians are known for their enthusiasm toward football, with a supporters’ club that remains the most vibrant across the globe.

“We all saw what happened in Ghana. The whole stadium was packed full with Ghanaians during the last match.

“I believe Nigerians can do better, as they have always done.

“So, in spite of the economic factor, I appeal to Nigerians, especially residents of Abuja, to come out to the stadium en masse to show support to our darling Super Eagles,” he said.

Ajilore appealed to Nigerians to wear clothes with shades of the national colours to beautify the stadium.

He said that any support given to the players would boost their play and aid their victory.

The ex-international, however, urged Nigerians to show spirit of sportsmanship during the match, regardless of who was winning.

According to him, football is a unifying sport and as such, its lovers and supporters must be united, regardless of who wins.

“Lovers of football should look out for the footballers’ skills, the coaches’ skills, the team coordination and total play; not focusing on the win alone.

“Although, we all want our team to win, we must embrace the spirit of sportsmanship in the Nigeria/Ghana match,” he said.
