In a move aimed at enhancing security measures in Benue State, a 4-Man Committee from the Nigerian Navy has arrived in Makurdi to conduct an on-the-spot assessment for the establishment of a Naval Base in the state. The directive for this assessment came from the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral EI Ogalla, signifying a proactive approach towards addressing the prevalent insecurity challenges in the region.

The initiation of this assessment follows discussions that took place during a recent visit by Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, to the Naval Headquarters in Abuja on Friday, 16th February, 2024. During the visit, Governor Alia passionately advocated for the establishment of a Type “A” Naval Base in Benue State to tackle the issues of insecurity arising from bandit activities and the recurrent farmer/herder clashes along the River Benue.

Expressing optimism about the outcomes of this joint assessment, Governor Alia believes that the establishment of a Naval Base in Benue State will not only strengthen security measures but also symbolize a beacon of hope for enduring peace and prosperity in the state.

Governor Alia extended his heartfelt appreciation to the Chief of Naval Staff for swiftly approving the proposal and taking a proactive stance in forming this vital committee. The Governor’s commendation reflects the collaborative effort between the state government and the Nigerian Navy in addressing the security challenges faced by the people of Benue State.

The visit of the Nigerian Navy’s Committee to Makurdi marks a crucial step towards the realization of a Naval Base in Benue State, underscoring a shared commitment to safeguarding lives and properties while fostering peace and stability in the region.
