NYSC At 50 Corps members Unveil Products In Sokoto

As part of activities to mark National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) golden jubilee some corps members who were taught entrepreneurship development (SAED) unveiled products in Sokoto.
Speaking at the event the director general of NYSC Brig Gen Yushau Dogara Ahmed said the gesture is to make the Corps members self reliance after the service year.
Ahmed who was represented by Sokoto state coordinator Alhaji Usman Yakubu Yaro (YY) said white collar jobs are not easy to go by these days hence the need to engraft the skills aquisition and enterprenuership development into the scheme.
“With the explosion of population of graduates produce annually by this country it is not possible for government to provide jobs for all them that is why the scheme introduced skills aquisition and enterprenuership development in 2012 and since then many corps members after the service year become self reliance and even employs other people he stated.
He stated that the scheme has partnered Unity Bank , Bank of Industry (BOI) Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other financial institutions to provide grants and soft loan for the corps members who are willing to continue with the enterprenuership.
He maintained that skills aquisition is one of the integral part of the scheme hence it is compulsory for all corps members to under go through before the service year.
He enjoined other corps members who are yet to show interest in the skills acquisition to do so as it will help them to be self reliance after the service year.
On her part the Assistant Director SAED Sokoto state Mrs Ogbolu Bernice said the scheme target is for all corps members to acquire one or more skills before passing out.

She noted that after passing out from the youth service, they become entrepreneurs and instead of depending on the government for employment they turn out to be employers of labour.
“We want to carry out transformational changes in terms of skills acquisition so that a lot of these corps members after service will no longer wait for government work, they will be on their own, they will establish their businesses, they will turn out to be employer of labour she said.
Also speaking the chairman NYSC board Sokoto state Alhaji Bashir Musa said the state government is ready to assist any Corp member in the state that has a skill and would like to showcase it.
He stated that their doors are open for any corp member who has learnt a skill and would like to exhibit it
Some of the areas of skills exhibited by the corps members includes, ICTS , beads making, food production and preservation, shoe making , furniture making and others
The representatives of General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Commissioner of police Sokoto state command, comptroller of immigration, Customs Service Sokoto state command, Commandant of Nigeria Civil Defense Corp graced the event
