The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed Corporal Buba Adamu for failing to report to his new post in Kaduna State and for promoting himself to the rank of Superintendent while engaging in illegal activities.
The dismissal was announced by the spokesperson for the Cross River Police Command, SP Irene Ugbo, at a press briefing in Calabar.
Corporal Adamu was transferred from the Cross River Command to Kaduna nine years ago but never reported to his new station. Instead, he promoted himself and operated illegally in Calabar until his arrest.
His activities were exposed by concerned members of the Nasarawa community, a Hausa-Fulani settlement in Calabar municipality, who had suffered from his illegal actions.
Community leaders raised the alarm when they learned that there was pressure on the police command to release Adamu following his arrest. SP Irene Ugbo revealed that Adamu had been functioning as a “mobile police officer” without any supervision or reporting to a specific police command since 2015.
“Corporal Adamu has been relieved of his duties and is no longer a policeman,” Ugbo stated. “Every item of property belonging to the Nigeria Police in his possession, including uniforms, identification cards, and other materials, has been retrieved.”
Adamu’s case has now been charged in court. SP Ugbo emphasized that the police have completed their part and that it is now up to the judiciary to handle the matter further.
The dismissal of Corporal Adamu underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to maintaining discipline and accountability within its ranks, ensuring that officers adhere to their duties and assignments.
