PORT HARCOURT PEACE MEETING

A peace Meeting held on Tuesday in Port Harcourt has brokered peace between two Brothers of the People’s Democratic Party that made headlines recently.

The Port Harcourt reconciliatory meeting was convened by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and his Rivers State counterpart Nyesom which was timely in view of the security situation in the country.

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi and Samuel Ortom of Benue had traded words recently following calls to restrict the movement of Herders grazing their flocks.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri noted that the polity had already been overheated while insecurity persists, pointing out that the outburst was needless.
He stated that the meeting was in the overall interest of the PDP and the nation.
Host Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike believes the misunderstanding can be resolved and hence the idea behind the meeting.

Wike regretted the cycle of conflicts and crisis in Nigeria, noting that the bickering was unhealthy for the nation.
The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed who commended Governors Fintiri and Wike for the peace initiative stressed that it was not intended to divide the country and assured that whatever misconceptions they had before has been put behind them.

For Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, the outburst was regrettable. He said as Brothers who served in the Federal Executive Council together they would always resolve their problems amicably.

He blamed the outburst on the security situation in the country describing the security architecture in the country as weak.

The reconciliatory meeting appealled to the Federal government and the new security chiefs to rejick the security architecture in order to achieve results.
