Secondary Schools League: Sacred Heart thrash El Leonora 3-0

Sacred Heart School defeated El Leonora 3-0 as the 2026 Nathaniel Idowu Junior 7s All Secondary Schools Football League kicked off in Lagos on Sunday.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the opening matches took place at the New Maracana Sports Complex, Tolu, Ajegunle.

The opening fixtures produced goals and competitive performances as participating schools began their campaigns in the competition.

Sacred Heart recorded the biggest victory of the day, securing maximum points to move to the top of the early standings.

Newland Senior Secondary School and Dorcas Memorial College played out a thrilling 3-3 draw in one of the day’s most entertaining encounters.

Both teams created scoring opportunities and attacked relentlessly but neither could find a decisive goal in the six-goal contest.

Gracewell Academy also began its campaign positively, defeating Topfield College 2-0 to claim three points.

In another encounter, God Is Faithful International College (GIF) defeated Doradiem Schools 2-1 in a closely contested match.

The victory gave GIF College three valuable points as the team began its quest for honours.

The league is sponsored by the Nathaniel Idowu Foundation, established by Chief Yemi Idowu, to promote grassroots sports development.

Through the initiative, the foundation seeks to provide young people with opportunities to discover and develop their talents while balancing academic pursuits with sporting excellence.

The competition is organised by Peakline Sports World Ltd., led by its Director-General, McAnthony Anaelechukwu.

The organisers aim to use school sports as a platform for youth development, encouraging discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship among participants.

Beyond competing for trophies, the league is expected to identify promising football talents and provide opportunities for young players to develop their abilities.

Following an eventful opening round, attention has shifted to Matchday Two, as participating schools continue their quest for honours.
