Sen. Goje Cautions Ishaku on Appointment of Taraba District Head

A critical stakeholder and community leader in Gassol LGA in Taraba State Sen. Ibrahim Goje has cautioned Gov. Darius Ishaku against appointing any person without historic link to the disputed traditional stool of District head of Tella.

The third republic Senator who spoke to journalists in Jalingo on Friday urged Gov. Ishaku to address the issue of insecurity in Gassol instead of bothering himself with pleasing minority ethnic groups by appointing them as 3rd Class Chiefs or District heads in areas that have no historical linkage with them.

Goje who is also a member of the Gassol Chiefdom Consultative Forum said that residents of Tella would resist any move to force an alien person on them as their District head.

“When Governor Darius Ishaku changed the name of Dan-Anacha to Kwararafa and appointed someone who has no historical linkage with the area, the Gassol Chiefdom Consultative Forum protested on the appointment and challenged it at the State High Court Jalingo, the case which is still pending.

“Governor Ishaku failed to realized the unfortunate happenings in Dan-Anacha  since his action, and this time around he wants to create another confusion in Tella, the commercial heart of Gassol Local Government, by appointing someone who has no traditional linkage to the rulership of Gassol Chiefdom as a District head on the ground that he is from same tribe with the governor.

“We are calling on Governor shaku to ignore those advising him on appointing an alien man as a District head of Tella on security grounds, because the inhabitants of Tella District will reject him and it may lead to a breakdown of law and order in the area.

“The insecurity in Taraba State and by extension Gassol LGA is a serious issue that the Government should address to its logical end not inviting troubles to her citizenry,” Goje said, adding that any action that is contrary to the will of the people may ignite another crisis in the area.
