SFH builds capacity of Patent Medicine Vendors, Community Pharmacists in Yobe

The Society for Family Health (SFH) in collaboration with Yobe government will  build the capacity of 20 Community Pharmacists and 350 Patent Medicine Vendors on family planning and some childhood diseases management.

Mr Johnson Ekele, the SFH Regional Programme Manager, disclosed this at the inauguration of the new projects on Thursday in Damaturu.

Other areas of training, he said, included integrated community case management of childhood illnesses, malaria, pneumonia, diarrhoea, and malnutrition.

He added that the gesture was meant to strengthen the quality of service delivery at the community level in the state in line with the Task Shifting and Task Sharing policy of the Federal Ministry of Health.

Ekele mentioned the inaugurated projects to include InteratE 2.0 project initiated to integrate family planning (FP), Primary Healthcare (PHC) services expansion, Community Pharmacies (CPs) and Patent and Proprietary Medicines Vendors (PPMVs).

Ekele said a total of 11 states including Yobe across the country would benefit from the programme from 2023 to September 2026.

The Yobe Commissioner of Health, Dr Mohammed Lawan-Gana, said Yobe government remained committed to ensuring the success of the project.

Lawan-Gana, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Health, Alhaji Abdullahi Jawa, said the administration of Gov. Mai Mala Buni would continue to prioritize provision of healthcare services.

In his remarks, Dr Kundi Machina, the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Primary Healthcare Management Board, commended SFH and other development partners for their contributions to the health sector.

He emphasised that the agency would do its best to ensure the success of the project in the state.
