SGBV: NGO HOLDS COMMUNITY-BASED DIALOGUE IN ZAMFARA
As part of its commitment towards eradication of Sexual Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), the Zamfara-based NGO, Voluntary Aid Initiative (VAI) said it held a constructive dialogue in some communities of the state.
The Project Officer of VAI, Mr Buhari Yau Moriki, disclosed this to newsmen in Gusau.
Moriki said that the dialogue meetings were held at Tsafe, Bilbis, Birnin-Magaji and Nasarawa-Godel communities in Birnin-Magaji and Tsafe local government areas of the state.
“The dialogue meetings were conducted in collaboration with UKaid-funded NGO, International Alert, to promote stability, access to justice and accountability,” he said.
He noted that participants in the dialogue included religious leaders, youths, persons with disability, women groups, and community-based organisations.

“The participants were sensitised on SGBV, the effect and preventive measures.
“They were sensitised to how to support victims and survivors of SGBV to speak up and dismiss fear of stigmatisation for justice,” he explained.
Moriki called for cohesion among various institutions and individuals working in the human rights space towards eradicating gender-based violence, especially at the community level.
