BY ANKELI EMMANUEL, Sokoto

The Sokoto State Commissioner of Police (CP) Muhammed Gumel has warned criminal minded people in Sokoto against unruly behaviours, noting that, the Command will not hesitate to deal with anybody or group of persons hiding under the guise of celebrating electoral victory to commit crime.

“”On this note, I will like to use this opportunity to inform members of the public in the state that the command in conjunction with other agencies are closely sustaining vigilance and taking actions on some disgruntled elements in the society who are taking advantage of the recent elections victories and losses by engaging on crimes likely to cause disruption of the peace being enjoyed in the state.

“We will treat such people involved in such acts as common criminals and not party faithfuls. Such criminals go to peoples houses to cause grievous harms””. Gumel noted.

CP Gumel while addressing journalists at the Command’s Headquarters, Wednesday added that they are  sustaining surveillance in every part of the State.

While divulging that the Command will never allow people taking laws into their hands to champion violence, CP Gumel further assured people of the state on peaceful lives before, during and after the general and supplementary election.

Gumel who recalled that the 79 suspects that were arrested by the security agencies in the state during the March 18 Governorship and State House of Assembly elections for violating the movement restrictions order and commission of other offences that contravened the Electoral Act such as vote buying, destruction of ballot boxes, thuggery, threats and inciting public disturbances at polling units, among others, have been   fully investigated and  transferred to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for prosecution.
