Sokoto Varsity Matriculates 2902 Students For Two Combined Academic Sessions

The Sokoto State University, (SSU) today matriculated no fewer than 2902 students for the 2021/2022/2022/2023 combined academic session. 

The Ivory tower has 4 faculties, which include that of Arts, Education, Social Science and Management Studies as well as that of Sciences. It also has18 Departments and runs 39 programmes in it’s undergraduate.

Sokoto State University  offers 16 Ph.D, 20 Masters and 5 Post Graduate Diploma programmes. 

Addressing the matriculating students, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Bashiru Garba said the ceremony is the 9th in it’s series and considered very important as it enables the newly admitted students to register their allegiances to the rules and regulations governing the institution. 

Continuing, the Vice Chancellor said, “‘In Sokoto State University, we take pride in training students in academic work and also focused on the character development of our students. It is our hope that as you graduate from here, you will be able to contribute meaningfully to the development of our dear nation and entire world”. 

While stressing that the event also provides the needed opportunity to the newly admitted students to pledge there allegiances to the University through the adminstration of Matriculation Oath, the Vice Chancellor, Prof, Bashiru assured that contravention of the institutions rules and regulations will always be met win stiff penalities. 

Giving breakdown of the admission process, the Vice Chancellor, divulged that the institution received a total of 3,579 undergraduate application for the 2021/2022 academic session, out of which 1,789 gained admission into their respective programmes of interest.

“While for the 2022/2023 academic session, a total of 6,480 candidates applied  for admission but only 2,626 (100 percent of the total quota) secured admission for the various degree programmes of the University. This bring the total admitted candidates for the two academic sessions to 4,415 out of which only about 2902 students registered for he combined  (2022/2022 and 2022/2023) academic session”. 

Speaking in HR part, the Sokoto State Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Aisha Madawaki said the State government is ever ready to do everything within it’s powers to ensure conducive learning environment for the institution.

She further assured that, the institution is becoming of age and growing steadily in excellence. 

The Pro Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Engr Bello Suleiman,

represemted by Abubakar Sokoto Mohammed urged matriculating students to take every single second of their stay in the academic environment very seriously, as it will determine what they come out with in the near future.

In his vote of thanks, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Professor Mohammed Yarima said, the institution is ever committed to giving it’s best to students at all times, hence operating ad seeing all as members of one single united family moving towards achieving a set objective.
