State Of The Nation: The Foundation Of Truth And Traumatic Effects Of Mental Colonization

By Richard Odusanya

“A lie doesn’t become truth, wrong doesn’t become right, and evil doesn’t become good, just because it’s accepted by a majority.”-Booker T. Washington.

Doing the right thing isn’t easy-in fact, sometimes it’s real hard-but we just have to remember that doing the right thing is always right. No right is as fundamental as the right to vote and to have that vote counted.

Foundation issues are no minor things; however, in the majority of cases, the issue can be fixed (although the cost vary)….if this is the case, more extensive repairs need to be made. Psalms 11:3 “if the foundation be destroyed, what can the righteous do? This brings us to the real issue of foundation. Obafemi Awolowo “CURSE”

Awo in answer to a classic case of capitulation. “i have” he said “exhausted myself on Nigeria and I have nothing new to say.” Awo also said he was silent because he had trained himself to speak only if his words could make any difference. “in a situation where I cannot do that.” “i remain silent.” His insinuations were obvious; the new military junta that overthrew the democratic government of Shehu Shagari, lead by Major General Muhammad Buhari, were impervious of reason. He then went on to tell Dr Yemi Ogunbiyi, his interviewer, that Nigeria will not know DEMOCRACY again for a long time, if ever.” Since then Nigeria has lurched from one dictatorship to another, both in khaki and agbada.

The return of Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999 seemed to have lifted Awo’s “curse” that Nigeria will not know DEMOCRACY again at least one generation, the massive rigging of the 2003 and 2007 general elections, suggested the return of the “curse”, in one of those ironies of life, the same Obasanjo who opportunistically benefited from the June 12 debacle, now embarked upon his own version of sit tight syndrome. Worst of all, he emptied the treasury and criminally embarked upon an illegality called “third term” in an attempt to become a life president like Mugabe and co. God miraculously castrate him and his criminal gangs, on the 16, May 2006.

Although he has continuously, tried unsuccessfully, to distance himself from the inglorious activities of the “third term” gambit. Here him “throughout the period”, he said, “i resisted the invitation to be drawn on either side and I maintained studied silence. I was maligned, insulted and wrongly accused but I remained where I am and what I am.” This was the foundation of where we are today.

The only reason why public office holders and civil servants cannot be deterred from engaging in corrupt practice and abuse of office, is because the previous misadventures and mal-practices are not sanctioned. So, therefore, the foundation is destroyed, it will be unreasonable to expect anything different from what we’re seeing today, in terms of quality of service and the Atitude’s of public office holders and civil servants. Therefore, there is the need to reevaluate our present realities and revisit the faulty foundation.

Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC)..in the light of the above, it has become imperative to set up our own version of the “Truth and Reconciliation Commission”, this will help us reunite our nation and heal the wounds, similar to what happened in South Africa and very recent in Kenya. Documents to that effect has been officially presented by us to the presidency through the Secretary to Federal government (SGF), Chief of staff to the president (CoS) and the deputy chief of staff to the president (DCoS). All of which was done when AFRICA COVENANT RESCUE INITIATIVE ACRI midwife the return of democracy day to June 12.
