Tambuwal flags off sale of fertilizer in Sokoto

The Governor of Sokoto State Aminu Waziri Tambuwal yesterday flagged off 2021 sale and distribution of fertilizer to Farmers at a subsidized rate of N5250 per bag to boost farming activities in the state.

Tambuwal while declaring the sale and distribution open at Shagari , in Shagari Local Government Area of the state said the aim is to reduce poverty and create jobs in the state.

The Governor announced that one bag of 50KG of Urea and Nitrogen Phosphorus Potassium (NPK) which is sold in the market for N10000 and N8000 respectively would be sold for N5250 and N4000.

According to the Governor the transport cost of all the brands of fertilizer would be borne by the state government to make the products affordable for Farmers.

He further disclosed that the state government has put some stategy in place in collaboration with security agencies for Farmers to go to their farm unhindered.

He enjoined the people of the state to be security conscious urging them to report any suspicious person or movement in their community to security agents or government officials for prompt action.

He thanked the people of Shagari for supporting his administration urging them to see government facilities as their own.
He also assigned the commissioner of animal health Prof Junaidu Abdulkadir to oversee ministry of Agriculture till substantive commissioner would be appointed due to the demise of former commissioner of Agriculture Arzika Tureta.

Earlier the permanent secretary in the ministry of Agriculture Mr Aliyu Muhammad Tureta thanked the Governor for his support to the ministry.

Tureta further explained that the state has comparative advantage in the production of some crops such as benuseed , onions, millet, Guinea corn , wheat because of it weather.

He said the state government is poised to support any body , group of people who are willing to engage in agriculture.

The permanent secretary added that government had put strategy in place to prevent the diversion of the products assuring that the products would go to the real farmers.
