Taraba Speaker chargers members on robust engagement with constituents

Sylvanus Viashima, Jalingo

The Speaker of Taraba State House of Assembly Professor Joseph Albasu Kunini has urged the members of the House to use the recess period to engage productively with their constituents before the House resumes for the next legislative quarter.

The Speaker made the call shortly before the House adjourned for a one month recess to resume on the 3rd of October, 2022.

He noted that the state was at a crossroads and it is expedient for the members to engage fruitfully with the people and enlighten them on critical issues where possible.

“As you are aware, this recess is one of the most important window available for us to interact with our constituents because there is so much going on that need to be addressed. As you proceed, I urge you to have deliberate time with your people to discuss issues around security and you may be surprised what you might just find out.

“It is equally imperative to let them understand the imperative of sharing intelligence with relevant security agencies to enable them act to secure our communities. The people listen to us because we are their representatives. They trust us and will open up to us. We must make use of the opportunity to impact positively.

“Besides, campaigns ahead of the 2023 general elections are about to start in earnest. We need to impress on them the need to play the game by the rules. 2023 is too important to be allowed to fate. We must make frantic efforts to tell our people that the era of election violence, rigging and indifference is over. They must get actively involved in all the process to make sure that they vote and that their votes count.

“We must be able to ensure that we break the barriers of religion and other sentiments that have dominated the political landscape over the years and inculcate the right values of competence, integrity, honor, justice and fairness. It is time for our people to get involved in true democracy based on the best Democratic principles and the responsibility falls heavily on us as their representatives and political beacons” he said.

He assured the people of the state that the House will resume to an even more people oriented legislative session for the next quarter and promised to continuously provide quality leadership that will ensure smooth operations among the various arms of government for the general good of the people.
