Terrorists attack Defence Minister’s hometown, kill 10 people

Terrorists have invaded Maradun town, the headquarters of Maradun Local Government Area (LGA) in Zamfara State, killed ten people and reportedly kidnapped over 50 others, mainly women.

Maradun is the home town of Nigeria’s Minister of State Defence, Honourable Bello Muhammed Matawalle.

A resident of the area, Malam Sulaiman Maradun, in a telephone conversation told journalists that the terrorists besieged the town at around 12am and started house to house operations.

“It was so terrible the way they stormed our town because they came with suppisticated weapons and began shooting sporadically in the air in the midnight of Friday,” he said.

He further stated that the terrorists killed ten people and made away with yet to be ascertained number of animals belonging to the community in the area.

He said the terrorists attacked Emir of Maradun palace Alhaji Garba Tambari in the absence of the traditional ruler.

“As I speak to you now, many people mainly women have been kidnapped by these terrorists during the attack and many of our people have been missing and no where to be found so far,” he said.

“This is not the first time these dreaded terrorists are attacking Maradun community. Government at all levels should take drastic and urgent measures to address the lingering insecurity affecting our area.”

Maradun called on the federal and Zamfara state government to deploy more troops to the area to saveguard people from the horrible activities of terrorists and restore peace in the area.

Efforts to reach the state police command public relations officer Asp Yazid Abubakar failed as all his lines were not reachable while compiling the report.

The Maradun attack is coming hours after heavily armed bandits attacked the Emir’s palace in Zurmi town, the headquarters of Zurmi local government in Zamfara State in an attempt to kidnap the Emir, Alhaji Muhammed Bunu.

Fortunately, the Emir escaped capture as he was whisked away by security agents to Gusau, the state capital.

However, the terrorists destroyed one of the transformers and a telecoms mast network booster in the community and killed three people, who were kidnapped during the incident.
