Troops Neutralize Armed ESN Fighters in Imo, Rescue Kidnap Victims in Zamfara State

In a recent series of operations conducted by the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Navy, significant victories were achieved in combating insecurity in different regions of the country.

On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, a successful raid operation was carried out on identified IPOB/ESN camps in Ejemekuru, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State. In the operation, a total of 5 armed fighters were neutralized by the combined troops after a fierce firefight. The gallant forces were able to overpower the armed separatists’ resistance with overwhelming firepower, resulting in the recovery of a substantial cache of dangerous weapons. Among the items seized were one AK-47 rifle, 2 Pump-action semi-automatic rifles, one locally fabricated gun, 2 magazines, and 3 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Additionally, 2 motorbikes, 2 mobile handsets, and a Camouflage jungle hat were also confiscated during the operation.

Simultaneously on the same day, troops deployed for counter-insurgency operations in North West Nigeria successfully rescued 15 kidnap victims in Tsohuwar Tasha area of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Acting swiftly upon receiving a distress call, the vigilant troops mobilized to the scene of the incident and engaged the kidnappers in a shootout. The kidnappers were forced to abandon their victims and flee into the forest, allowing all abductees to be rescued unharmed.

Spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu in a statement reiterated the commitment of the Army to addressing security challenges in troubled areas of the country.

He urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies as the military continues its tireless efforts to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians.
