VP leads FG delegation on condolences to Yobe

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday led a Federal Government delegation to condole with the government and people of Yobe over the loss of the state’s former governor, Bukar-Abba Ibrahim.

Shettima who represented President Bola Tinubu on the visit was accompanied by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babagana Kingibe,  former Nigerian Ambassador to China Baba Jidda, and a former FCT Minister, Alhaji Ibrahim Bunu

NAN reports that when Yobe Governor,  Mai Mala Buni received the delegation in Damaturu, the Vice President described the deceased as ‘an epitome of kindness, an icon of humility and one of the last of the great titles of Yobe”.

” I am here at the instance of President Bola Tinubu to commiserate with the government and good people of Yobe over the sad loss of the architect of modern Yobe and elder statesman per excellent, Sen. Bukar-Abba Ibrahim.

” We are surely going to miss him.
It’s a sad day and a sad week for the people of Yobe.

” It’s a sad day, a sad week for the people of Borno, the North East and the nation as a whole.

” Borno and Yobe are like siamese twins, hardly do you know where Borno ends and where Yobe begins,” he said.

The vice-president said that the Yobe State University, Shehu Sule School of Nursing, Yobe State Polytechnic and other too numerous to mention were part of the legacies of Ibrahim.

” But most importantly, we are all going to miss him for his simplicity, his kindness, his forgiven spirit and his abilities to embrace all tendencies.

” I am his son, I can proudly call myself a member of his family. May Allah grant his soul internal rest and reward him with Aljannah firdausi.

” May Allah grant the good people of Yobe, his immediate and extended family both in Borno and Yobe the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

” Your Excellency as the father of Yobe, please accept the heartfelt condolences from President Bola Tinubu because they belong to the class of 1999.

” They were the pioneer governors of the current dispensation, ” Shettima said.

Responding, Buni thanked President Tinubu and Shettima for finding time to pay the condolence visit.

” May Allah in His infinite mercy reward you in many folds.

“Your Excellency, we can’t thank you enough for supporting us at this very solemn moment when we are mourning the demise of Sen. Bukar-Abba Ibrahim.

” Like you rightly captured, we are going to miss him on so many ways but we must take solace in the fact that we are all on transit awaiting for our appointed times.”

Earlier at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport, Damaturu, Shettima was received by a former Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, Sen. Ibrahim Bomai and Deputy Speaker, Yobe House of Assembly, Yau Dachia.

Others were Sen. Adamu Aliero, Sen. Danjuma Goje, former interim National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Tijjani Tumsah among others.

It will be recalled that Ibrahim died on Sunday in a Saudi Arabia hospital after a protracted illness and was buried in Saudi Arabia.

He was the governor of Yobe from May 1999 to May 2007. He was elected senator for Yobe East, also in 2007 and re-elected on the same position in 2011.
