“Yobe Governor’s Cup To Be Played On Synthetic Grass” ~ Dr Ago

The Commissioner, Ministry of Youth, Sports, Social and Community Development, Hon. Barma Shettima has disclosed that his ministry in collaboration with Yobe State Sports Council has planned to organize Football Governor’s Cup in the State, aiming to discover youth talents and promotion of peace, unity, social cohesion as well as economic growth of the state through sports.

The Commissioner made the disclosure while briefing the journalists shortly after meeting with the with Zonal and Local Government Sport Officers. He revealed that participants from 17 Local Government Areas were already drawn as participating teams in the tournament. He stressed that the games will be played at 5 stadia across the state which include; August 27 Stadium Damaturu, Dabo Aliyu Stadium Potiskum, Gashua Township Stadium, Kawumi Stadium Geidam and Nguru Township Stadium.

Hon. Barma also disclosed that the last round of the competition will be played in Damaturu, stressing that first position would receive the Sum of One Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira, second position, One Million Naira, while third position will receive Five Hundred Thousand Naira.

While commending the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni for reviving sports in the state, the commissioner then called on the both Zonal and Local Government Areas Sport Officers to guide the players in order to abide by the rules and regulations of the game so as to have a hitch free competition.

On his part, the Executive Director of Yobe State Sports Council, Dr. Abdulrahman Ago, disclosed that the final stage of the Governor’s Cup will be played in the New Constructed Synthetic Stadium by the Yobe State Government. He further explained that the synthetic stadium is an artificial grass commonly used in stadia and sports fields around the world which will give the players a consistency and durability while playing.

Dr. Ago, also commended the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni for approving the ongoing construction of the August 27 Stadium, stressing that the governor will grace the kick off ceremony of the competition. He added that the last Governor’s Cup played in 2017.

Meanwhile, players’ licenses, jerseys, balls, kits and other related materials were already shared to the various Local Government Areas.
