ZAMFARA NYSC SENSITIZES EMPLOYERS ON SAFETY, WELFARE OF CORP MEMBERS

The National Youths Service Corps (NYSC)  on Wednesday in Gusau, Zamfara, held a one-day workshop to sensitize employers on sefaty and welfare of corps members.


The participants in the annual event were drawn from security agencies, heads of government and private establishments in the state.


Speaking at the event, the state NYSC Coordinator, Mr Muhammed Namalam-Taura said the event aimed at sensitising the corps members’ employers on their responsibilities in the areas of security and welfare of the corp members.


“You, know the NYSC as a scheme, we post corps members to various locations as places of primary assignment.
“We noticed that, some of their employers are ignorant of such responsibilities.


“That is why we are organizing this kind of  event annually to inform and remind our employers of their responsibilities, especially in the areas of security, accommodation and transport aimed at improving the productivity of the corps members.

“Our hope is to ensure improved attitude of corps members’ employers towards the safety and welfare of corps members,” Namalam-Taura said.


Dr Rilwanu Abdullahi of Biochemistry Department, Federal University, Gusau said the workshop is very important for the enhancement of the productivity of the corps members.


“This will help the employers to know what is expected from them as regards to improvements of the corps members welfare and security,”Abdullahi said.


 Mr Salihu Umar Yahuza representative of the state Ministry of Youths commended the NYSC for organising the workshop.


Yahuza assured the NYSC of the  state government commitments to improve the  welfare and safety of the corps members.He called on the corps members’ employers in the state to wake up to their expectations by improving welfare of the corps members for effective service delivery.


Also, the representative of the Ministry of Education, Hajiya Zalihat Sallau urged the  corps members to be good ambassadors of the scheme and assured continued promotion of the corps members welfare by the ministry.


Sallau who is the Director Sciences in the ministry urged corps members to ensure decency and avoid abusing culture and religion of their host communities.
