ZAMFARA POLICE COMMAND ARREST  SUSPECTS FOR EXTORTING YAR-KATSINA COMMUNITY

 Police command in Zamfara has arrested two suspects for extorting N5 million from people of Yar-Katsina community in Bungudu local government area of the state in the name of facilitating deployment of security personnel in the area.

This is contained in a statement issued in Gusau on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Muhammad Shehu. 

The statement read, “Zamfara police command has arrested two suspects, namely: Lawali Musa 36, from Jangebe village in Talata Mafara and Jamilu Isah 40, from Yardole area in Gusau local government area”.

“The arrest of the suspects was as a result of complains received from members of the community against the principal suspect Lawali Musa.

“Police investigation revealed that, the principal suspect confessed to have collected the sum of N5, 000,000 from the community in the name of assisting them to have security agencies deployed to their community. 

“The second suspect, Jamilu Isah confessed that, the sum of 800,000 out of the N5 million collected was deposited into his account”, Shehu said.

The PPRO added that the investigation is still in progress in the command after which the suspects would be charged to court to face full wrath of the law, so that it will serve as deterrence to others. 

The command therefore reiterate that, deployment of security operatives to villages and communities is purely free of charge.

The police command therefore appalled to people of the state to disregard any person or group in the name of securing deployment of security operatives to their areas.

“You can reach out police or any relevant authority regarding the general security of your respective areas.

“Any suspect  also be reported to the police or any security agency for appropriate action. Shehu explained.
