In a major dual policy move targeting both food security and civil servant welfare, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has approved the immediate recruitment of 50 specialized tractor operators and greenlit the implementation of the β¦70,000 minimum wage for local government employees.
The double-barreled directive, announced on Thursday, aims to modernize the state’s agricultural backbone while boosting the purchasing power of grassroots public servants.
Mechanizing the Grassroots
The 50 newly employed tractor operators are graduates of the stateβs specialized technical training program, designed to combat youth unemployment by equipping young people with modern agricultural skills.
According to officials, the operators will be deployed immediately to manage the state’s recently acquired fleet of tractors across all 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
The administration expects this move to maximize the lifespan of the machinery, boost overall food production, and provide efficient farming services to rural communities.
Minimum Wage Implementation Hits Local Governments
On the welfare front, Governor Fintiri directed that the new β¦70,000 national minimum wage be fully implemented for local government workers. The salary adjustment will specifically cover employees under three key frameworks:

Β * MLJSS:Medical and Health Salary Structure
Β * CONMESS: Consolidated Medical Salary Structure
By explicitly including medical and health salary structures, the state ensures that rural healthcare workers are captured in the new pay scale, a move expected to stem brain drain at the primary healthcare level.

Additionally, the Governor ordered the immediate payment of all statutory entitlements owed to elected local government executives. Administration officials state this measure is designed to curb corruption, enhance financial accountability, and ensure smoother administrative running at the local council level.
“These approvals underscore our sustained commitment to strengthening institutions, improving workers’ welfare, advancing agricultural modernization, and deepening grassroots governance through practical, people-oriented policies,” the administration noted in a statement following the approvals.
Since taking office, the Fintiri administration has heavily leaned on a blend of civil service reforms and agricultural mechanization as part of its core economic strategy for Adamawa State. Local observers point out that ensuring local governments have both the equipment to farm and a motivated workforce to manage local affairs will be critical tests for the administration’s long-term sustainability goals.
