2023: Senator Wamakko Warmly Endorsed For 3rd Term

The delegates of Sokoto North Senatorial District Saturday unanimously endorsed Senator Aliyu Magatarda Wamakko to represent them for the third time in the Senate. 


Before moving the motion for his reaffirmation, majority of the delegates said Senator Wamakko is not the type of lawmaker that are domicile in Abuja but a grassroots politician who is always with his people 
According to one of the delegates, Umaru Mohammed Sokoto, “No politician in Sokoto can be compared with Senator Wamakko. 


“He is without doubt, like an iroko tree whose height stands it out for admiration in the thick forest. Senator Wamakko is one individual whose personal residence is like a  mini Mecca that is open to all irrespective of political, religious and ideological inclination”. He enthused. 

The motion for voice affirmation of Senator Wamakko for third term in office was moved by Babangida  Dantsoho from Sokoto South local government and seconded by Aliyu Sabo from Kware local government which was greeted with unimaginable ovation by the delegates who came from the local governents of Binji, Tangaza, Silame, Gudu, Wamakko, Kware, Sokoto North and Sokoto South.

Members of the APC Primary election National Committee that came to monitor the exercise include, Secretary of the Committee, Barrister Wale Ojo, Dr Tona Famadewa, and Salisu Uba Tsafe, the APC North West Zonal Organizing Secretary, while.that of the electoral umpires was headed by Barrister Hauwa Ali Kangiwa.  


Speaking in his acceptance speech, Senator Wamakko said he is happy that his people still have much confidence in him.
According to Wamakko, he will forever remained grateful to Allah and the entire people of Sokoto for all the love, support, confidence and trust they have in him over the years. 


The Senator who divulged that he will soon retire from active politics to give way for the younger generation, added that, they must assist in grooming youths for future leadership.  Wamakko, was deputy governor of Sokoto State between 1999 to 2006 when he voluntarily resigned. He contested governorship in 2007, won and held the office till 2015 before going for Senate. 


From 2015 Senator Wamakko has been member and chairman of various committees at the Red Chamber. He is currently, the Chairman, Northern Senators Forum, Senate Committee Chairman of Defence, Deputy Committee Chairman of Anti Corruption. 


The two term Senator Wamakko is also a member, Muslim World League, and a holder of several traditional titles such as Sarkin Yamman Sokoto, Sarkin Yakin Hausa amongst numerous others.
