The Director/Facilitator-General of the Virtual Institute for Capacity Building in Higher Education (VICBHE), and immediate past Chairman, Governing Board of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Peter Okebukola, has commended the impressive leadership of the Executive Secretary, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Arch. Sonny Echono for the completion of the installation of transplant and urology equipment for the treatment of prostate and kidney stone worth N250million in seven hospitals.
According to Prof. Okebukola, these equipment target exploding ailments notably chronic kidney disease and prostate enlargement/cancer.
While congratulating the exemplary leadership of the TETFund Executive Secretary via Nigerian Impact WhatsApp platform, Prof. Okebukola said, “Congratulations to TETFund under Arch. Sonny Echono’s impressive leadership. These equipment target exploding ailments notably chronic kidney disease and prostate enlargement/cancer. Two dividends are notable-improved healthcare delivery and lowering of medical tourism outside Nigeria. Please keep up the good work sir and shun distractions.”

Prof. Okebukola, who was also a former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), thanked TETFund for the support for VICBHE Module 8 where 931 Nigerian scholars including VCs, Rectors, Provosts of CoEs, DVCs, DAPs, and Chief Lecturers were trained for 13 weeks in the practical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for teaching, research and community engagement.
Beneficiary health institutions of the TETFund equipment include Aminu Kano (now Bayero Teaching Hospital University), Kano State; Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, (BUK), Bauchi State; Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Kaduna State; University of Abuja, University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin, Edo State. Others are University of Jos Teaching Hospital, Plateau State and University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Maiduguri.
