NDLEA arrests 121 suspects, seizes 270.253kg of illicit drugs in Kebbi
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kebbi Command says it has arrested 121 suspected drug dealers and seized 270.253Kg of illicit drugs between Jan. and June this year in the state.
The NDLEA Commander in the state, Alhaji Rabi’u Abdullahi-Sokoto, made this known at the grand finale of this year’s United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.
“Our achievements for this year so far from Jan. to June 2025 is that we have been able to arrest 121 suspects, comprising 116 males and five females.
“We have seized 214.737Kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa, 55.516 kilogrammes of Psychotropics totalling 270.253 kilogrammes,” he said.
Abdullahi-Sokoto added that the agency rehabilitated 27 persons, while, 24 drug offenders had been convicted to various jail terms during the period under review.
“As we all know, drug menace is a global problem and the situation remains challenging.
“We, therefore, cannot afford to be complacent and watch this hydra headed monster ravage our families, communities and society at large.
“It has been proven that there is a nexus between drugs and crime, as most of these criminals carryout their nefarious activities under the influence of hard drugs or because of the need for hard drugs,” he said.
According to him, it therefore, becomes necessity for this nexus to be broken.
“The theme for this year’s celebration is “Evidence is Clear, Invest in Prevention” which emphasizes the importance of a prevention oriented approach to reduce Illicit drug use in the society.
“This year’s theme is in consonance with the objectives of the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) activities being carried out in schools and communities to improve the well-being of the residents of the state.
“It is pertinent to note the popular saying “that prevention is better than cure”. This is not only apt but cheaper. We have to emphasise the non-use of hard drugs as it is cheaper than treatment and rehabilitation,” he said.
Abdullahi-Sokoto, revealed that the agency had carried out sensitisation programmes to almost every nook and cranny of the state.

He highlighted that the agency had carried out sensitisation to school-based, faith-based, work-based and community-based as well as other members of the public.
“This campaign today is to advocate, educate and build the capacity of our youths to resist the pressures of succumbing to substance abuse which is prevalent in our society today.
“This school-based programme is part of our preventive measure to ensure that children of school age are not involved in drug abuse and illicit trafficking,” he said.
The commander thanked the wife of Kebbi Governor, Hajiya Zainab-Nasare Idris on the recent renovation of female rehabilitation centre and Gov. Nasir Idris for his immense support and assistance to the state command.
“I therefore, urge other stakeholders, individuals, politicians, religious leaders, parents, law enforcement agents, the media, traditional rulers, among others, to joint the Agency in its fight to reduce to the barest minimum, the drug menace in the state,” the commander said.
