Kano contributory healthcare management agency flags referral, records in 80 facilities
The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) has identified gaps in referral practices, documentation and drug stock management in 80 accredited healthcare facilities across the state.
The agency’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Aminu Turaki, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Kano.
Turaki said the findings followed the agency’s Q2 2026 Joint Supportive Supervision Exercise, which provided an opportunity to assess facility-level performance and agree on measures to address identified gaps.
He said the exercise covered 80 accredited Primary, Secondary and Private healthcare facilities across 19 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
According to him, the facilities collectively serve 129,831 enrollees under the state’s Contributory Healthcare Scheme.
He explained that the assessment covered governance, staffing, clinical services, enrollee records, pharmacy and laboratory services, maternity care, infrastructure, financial utilisation and digital service delivery.
Turaki said the exercise recorded progress in areas including digital on-boarding, drug storage and laboratory services.
He noted that the assessment however revealed areas requiring further attention, particularly documentation, enrollee utilisation, referral practices, stock management and other operational processes.
He said the agency would intensify targeted mentorship and capacity building for facility personnel to address the identified challenges.

The PRO added that KSCHMA would strengthen record-keeping and reporting, improve enrollee sensitisation and utilisation, and enhance knowledge of referral procedures.
He said the agency would also promote more effective use of its digital platform and strengthen monitoring of drug and stock management.
According to him, KSCHMA will improve financial documentation and follow up on infrastructure-related challenges affecting service delivery.
Turaki added that facilities requiring additional support would receive structured follow-up to ensure that agreed corrective measures were implemented and sustained.
He described the quarterly Joint Supportive Supervision Exercise as an important mechanism for continuous monitoring, technical support and performance improvement.
He said the Q2 findings would serve as an evidence base for strengthening healthcare governance, accountability and informed decision-making at facility level.
Turaki reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to working with healthcare providers and stakeholders to translate supervision findings into measurable improvements in healthcare delivery across the state.
He said the KSCHMA would continue to ensure that enrollees received quality, accessible and responsive healthcare services under the contributory healthcare scheme.
