NDLEA Pushes for Drug-Free Campuses, Urges Institutions to Implement Prevention Policies and Integrity Tests
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is calling on tertiary institutions across Kano State to bolster their efforts in combating drug abuse by adopting comprehensive drug prevention policies and integrating integrity testing for students.
This initiative aims to foster a healthier and safer environment for young people, ensuring their well-being and academic success.
During a two-day workshop for heads of tertiary institutions in Kano, NDLEA Chairman, retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, emphasized that while enforcement remains crucial, sustainable solutions lie in proactive prevention strategies.
He highlighted that campuses are increasingly becoming hotspots for illicit drug circulation and experimentation, posing significant threats to academic performance, public safety, and social order.
Marwa urged institutions to establish and strengthen drug-free clubs, counseling units, and integrate drug education into their curricula.

The NDLEA is also advocating for the adoption of its Drug Integrity Test, an evidence-based initiative designed for early identification of drug use among students.
The agency stressed that positive test results should be met with support and rehabilitation rather than criminalization.
Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has pledged its commitment to collaborate with NDLEA, with Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Aliyu Mu’azu describing the initiative as timely and essential for nurturing responsible youth and building a disciplined nation.
The workshop served as a platform to reinforce institutional partnerships and enhance the implementation of drug use prevention policies.
