Fugitive Drug Lord, On The Run For 15 Years, Apprehended By NDLEA
A major breakthrough in the fight against international drug trafficking has been achieved with the arrest of Uzoma Valentine Ilomuanya, a 58-year-old fugitive drug lord wanted by both Nigerian and British authorities for over 15 years.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced the significant capture, describing it as a crucial blow to drug cartels.
Ilomuanya, a prolific offender with a long history of drug-related crimes spanning Nigeria and the United Kingdom, was apprehended on Monday, February 23rd, 2026, following a coordinated operation by the NDLEA’s Special Operations Unit in Lagos.
His arrest brings an end to a prolonged pursuit by law enforcement agencies.
The drug lord’s criminal past includes a conviction for drug trafficking in the UK in 2003, for which he was initially sentenced to nine years but later released on appeal.

His subsequent arrest in the UK in July 2011 for further drug offences led to his abscondment to Nigeria while on administrative bail. Despite further arrests by the NDLEA in November 2018, related to methamphetamine laboratories discovered in his country home and Lagos residence, Ilomuanya once again evaded justice by jumping court bail and remaining at large until his recent apprehension.
NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), hailed the arrest as a stark warning to fugitives and lauded the officers involved for their professionalism.
He emphasized the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug networks, strengthening international collaboration, and ensuring Nigeria is not a haven for global drug lords.
“The long arm of the NDLEA will eventually catch up with those who choose to undermine the health, security, and future of our nation,” Marwa stated.
