Troops secure Eid, tighten grip on terrorists in NE
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have ensured the peaceful conduct of Eid-el-kabir prayers across parts of the North East, while sustaining offensive operations against terrorist and criminal elements.
This is contained in a statement by the Media Information Officer of OPHK, Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, on Wednesday.
Uba said the troops, under Operation DESERT SANITY V/Siege Operations, recorded significant gains in ongoing efforts to stabilise the region.
He said troops deployed at Ngoshe community provided security and joined residents and vigilantes for Eid prayers at the central mosque, describing it as a reflection of improved security and growing public confidence.
The area, he noted, had previously been threatened by insurgents.
“Similarly, troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade secured designated prayer grounds in Gwoza town, ensuring a safe environment for worshippers during the celebrations,” he said.

Uba said troops acting on credible intelligence foiled a robbery in Gar Gwigwi village, Biu Local Government Area, arresting three suspects.
According to him, items recovered include mobile phones, wristwatches, charms, cash, a dagger and a dane gun, which has been returned to its rightful owner.
He added that troops, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), also apprehended a suspected terrorist collaborator, Alhaji Gambo, 33, during routine security checks in Monguno.
According to him, the suspects are in custody, while follow-up operations are ongoing to track down other members of criminal and terrorist networks.
Uba said the general security situation in the theatre remained calm but unpredictable, noting that troops have continued to demonstrate high morale, resilience and operational effectiveness.
He reiterated the resolve of Operation HADIN KAI to sustain the momentum and deny terrorists freedom of action while working towards lasting peace in the North East.
