Police step up vigilance against thuggery in Yobe
The Police Command in Yobe says it has stepped up vigilance against the activities of thugs and miscreants in Potiskum Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s Spokesman, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu on Tuesday.
He said the proactive initiative followed an alleged stick attack on Mr Abubakar Ahmadu, a resident of Arikime area, by a 16-year-old minor currently in the command’s custody.
Abdulkarim said Ahmadu, who reported the incident at the Potiskum Divisional Police Station on June 1, alleged that the minor perpetrated the crime alongside four of his gang members (names withheld).

The Spokesman said the suspected thugs, who were still at large, were returning from a local cinema when they got into a stick fight with some youths of New Junction also at the Arikime area.
He said Ahmadu was attempting to intervene in the conflict when he was hit on the stick on his head with a stick by the minor, leaving him with a serious head injury.
Abdulkarim said the victim had received treatment at Specialist’s Hospital, Potiskum, while efforts were being made to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Spokesman warned youths in the state against all forms of crime, saying the command was combat-ready to deal with law breakers.
