Killings In Nigeria: Enough Of Condolences, Action Needed Now, Atiku Tells FG

By Ankeli Emmanuel, Sokoto

Worried by the prolong spate of insecurity, that have resulted in the death of numerous lives, displacement of thousands and permanent disfiguring of many homes, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has challenge the government to take necessary action and stop condolences.

Atiku who asked  how many more Nigerians will be killed before the needed decisive action is taken, advised that the current state of insecurity in Nigeria should and must be considered a national emergency.

“The recurring killings across different parts of Nigeria demand urgent and decisive action from the authorities rather than routine official statements after every tragedy.

“These killings have become frighteningly recurrent, and a government that cannot protect its citizens must not become comfortable issuing statements after every massacre.”

The former Vice President, Atiku who is also the Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general election spoke in reaction to the recent killing of no fewer than 32 people in Angushi village of Kebbe local government, Sokoto state.

Atiku who condemned the killing of 32 people in Angushi further described the attack as another painful reminder of the worsening security situation in the country.

He further expressed deep sympathy with the families of the victims and the people of Sokoto State, while praying for the repose of those who lost their lives.

“I am devastated by the killing of 32 innocent Nigerians in Ungushi community, Kebbe LGA of Sokoto State. My heart goes out to the bereaved families and the people of Sokoto State. May Allah forgive the departed and give their loved ones the strength to endure this unbearable loss.

“Condolences are no longer enough. How many more Nigerians must be slaughtered before this government treats the protection of human life as an emergency?”

Giving his advise on the abysmal development, Atiku appealed to the Federal Government to adopt stronger security measures, including improved intelligence gathering, enhanced protection for vulnerable communities and ensuring those responsible for the attack are arrested and prosecuted.

“The Federal Government must move from condolences to action: strengthen intelligence, secure vulnerable communities and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The first duty of government is to protect life. Nigerians cannot continue to bury their loved ones while those entrusted with their security offer excuses.”Atiku fummed.
