Eid-el-Kabir: NEMA urges motorists to exercise patience, accommodate other road users
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Sunday called on motorists to exercise patience and accommodate other road users during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The Director-General of NEMA, Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed, made the call while inaugurating the Special Operation Eagle Eyes at Four-Corner Junction on Enugu-Umuahia-Aba-Port-Harcourt Road in Enugu.
Ahmed, represented by South-East Coordinator of NEMA, Mr James Eze, said that the Special Operation Eagle Eyes tagged: “Safe Eid-el-Kabir’’ would last for five days, from July 18, untill July 22.
He said that the Agency was deploying 25 staff members for the operation, some specialised rescue vehicles and an ambulance to attend to road emergencies during the period.

The Director-General said that the operation would cover patrols on major road corridors in the South-East.
He listed them as: Enugu-Abakaliki Road, Enugu-Awka-Onitsha Road, Enugu-9th Mile-Nsukka-Obollo-Afor Road and Enugu-Umuahia-Aba-Port-Harcourt Road.
Ahmed said that the Agency officials had been positioned to sensitise road users to the need to embrace safety measures and lower their speed level during the Sallah celebration.
He said: “The operation in collaboration with other stakeholders and law enforcement agencies is aimed at reducing road accidents and other emergencies on the roads.
“We want every one road user to be safety conscious and be patient with one another.
“Why we have road accidents most times is due to lack of patience for other road users as well as being in a hurry when journeys are started late.
“Please, the Federal Government through NEMA wants every Nigerian to be alive this Sallah period by taking responsibility of his or her safety and safety of others as well.
“NEMA’s operation first responders are already on the major road corridors to give assistance and helping hands where and when necessary to ensure we celebrate in life and health as well.’’
The NEMA boss also appreciated the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), other national and local security and enforcement agencies for their synergy with the Agency to ensure the success of the operation.
