Army deploys female troops for Benin peace mission, Plateau operation — Commander
The Nigerian Army Women Command (NAWC) says its personnel have recorded significant operational deployments, including participation in a peace support mission in the Republic of Benin.
The outgoing Commander of NAWC, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Adamu, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen during the operationalisation of refurbished operational vehicles and the renovated Soldiers’ Club for the command, in Giri, Abuja.
Adamu said female personnel from the Command were, for the first time in the history of the Nigerian Army, deployed as a complete contingent for a peace support operation in Benin Republic.
He said the deployment was undertaken under Operation ALAFIA, adding that the Command had also deployed personnel to Plateau State under Operation ENDURING PEACE.
According to him, the deployment to Plateau was aimed at supporting efforts to restore peace and stability following security challenges in the state.

The Commander said personnel of the Command also participated in election security duties during the recently concluded Osun State governorship election.
He attributed the operational achievements to the approval, direction and enabling environment provided by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu.
“Whatever achievements we have recorded at the Nigerian Army Women Command could not have been possible without the enabling environment provided by the Chief of Army Staff,” he said.
Adamu said the Command remained committed to supporting the Nigerian Army in tackling contemporary security challenges and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
He said his tenure had also focused on ensuring that the Command maintained adequate operational mobility and readiness to deploy personnel at short notice.
The outgoing commander said he would proceed to become the pioneer commander of the newly established 8 Brigade in Ado-Ekiti.
