While admitting that having media fraternity in the right against polio is of great essence, Dr. Michael Juma said, journalists through their reportage will help in capturing not just the of the happenings during the vaccination, but also influence public opinion in terms of bringing children forward for vaccination, which he described as “very important”.
According to Dr. Juma journalists through their reports will inspire sense of community ownership of the entire program, and that built a strong sense of confidence in the entire process.
“More importantly, I would also urge the media industry to provide evidence-based information, appropriate and correct information in terms of bringing more children, especially the zero dose, the missed children, and also children in hard-to-reach areas, so that we have 100% full coverage of polio vaccination.
On his part, the UNICEF Senior Health Manager/ Polio Team Lead Dr. Asnakew Tsega also acknowledged the fact the media has great influence in giving out information that will t ensure that every parent understands the role of vaccination and how it brings protection and immunity to every single child.
