ASSEMBLY APPROVES ZAMFARA GOVT TO ESTABLISH TWO ADDITIONAL EMIRATES


The Zamfara House of Assembly has approved the creation of two additional emirate councils in the state.
This followed the amendment of the state Emirate Council Establishment Law No. 15 of 2000, to enable the state create additional emirates.


This is contained in a statement issued in Gusau on Friday by the Press Secretary to the House, Malam Nasiru Usman Biyabiki.


Biyabiki said that the Assembly gave the approval during its plenary. He said the two emirate councils to be established were Yandoton Daji and Bazai.


According to him, the Yandoton Daji emirate with second class Emir comprising ‘Yandoton Daji, Keta, Kizara, Bawa-Ganga, Kwaren-Ganuwa, Danjibga and Kunchin-Kalgo Districts with its headquarters at Birnin ‘Yandoto town.


“While Bazai emirate with second class emir also to have its headquarters at Jangeru town with Bazai, Jangeru, Galadi, Katuru, Birnin Yaro Tungar Kaho and Tubali districts.

“Presenting the bill at the plenary, the Deputy House Leader, Nasiru Bello Lawal (APC-Bungudu West) called on the lawmakers to support the bill for the establishment of the two emirates.


“Lawal called for the need to amend the Bill which was established 22 years ago.
“In their separate contributions, members stressed the need to amend the bill and allow for the creation of more emirate councils in the state considering their roles in the socio-economic development of the state,” he said.


The Speaker, Malam Nasiru Magarya, directed the Clerk of the House to circulate the bill for the first and second readings.


The members later broke into the committee of the whole-house for further deliberation and recommendations.


“Reporting the outcome of the committee of the whole-house’s meeting at the plenary, the Speaker said the house came up with recommendations among which include unanimous decision of the lawmakers to create two additional emirate councils in the state,” Biyabiki explained.


A copy of the clean Bill as amended has been forwarded to Gov. Bello Matawalle for assent.
With the current development, the state will now have 19 emirate councils.
