Tambuwal Former Commissioner Assumes Office As SSU VC
Promises to make the school citadel of learning.

The 3rd substantive Vice Chancellor of Sokoto State University, Sokoto Prof Garba Bashir has assumed office.


He was appointed from  among other competing colleague as recommended by the governing council of the University.


The new VC was the former Secretary to Sokoto State Government in Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal’s first administration and became commissioner for higher education.


The new Vice Chancellor in a brief ceremony held at the Senate building of the university  promised to make completion of staff quarters within the school a priority.

He noted that with the staff quarters on ground, staff of the school will have easy access to attend to their students without delay.


He disclosed that he will make the institution a citadel of learning through collaboration with other national and international institutions in the area of manpower training.


He promised to make sure that under his leadership, there will be a provision of guest house, the school will also in no distance time have a staff school which he said will help in reducing stress pass through by staff in taking their kids to school.


Professor Bashir Garba who was also one time Rector of Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic further assured the staff and students of the university the school under his leadership will tap into the available opportunity of proposed Law school in Argungu, Kebbi State, to establish faculty of law in the school.


He called on ASUU and other professional union in the school to do whatever they can do to find a solution to the ongoing dispute between Academic Staff Union of Universities  (ASUU) and government in the interest of the students.


He commended the outgoing Vice Chancellor for not only sustain all the 23 academic programmes he met but also improve on it to 39 in addition to another 19 Postgraduate classes.


The Professor of Chemistry  promised to return to  class in addition to his duty as the Vice Chancellor so as not only to maintain the accreditation of the post graduate school recently approved by National University Commission (NUC) for the school.


Earlier in his remarks, the outgoing Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Sani Dangoggo, assured his successor to make himself available for advice and clarifications whenever his attention is required
