Association treats 2,500 indigents in Ilorin outreach

The Association of Industrial Pharmacists of Nigeria (NAIP) has provided free medical outreach to about 2,500 indigent residents in Ilorin as part of activities marking its 29th Annual National Conference.

Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS ) reports that the outreach featured medical consultations, laboratory investigations and free drug distribution for beneficiaries across selected areas in the Kwara State capital.

Speaking during the exercise on Friday, NAIP National Chairman, Mr Bankole Ezebuilo, said the initiative was part of the association’s contribution to improving access to healthcare and giving back to society.

Ezebuilo said beneficiaries received laboratory tests alongside free medications, adding that the association also renovated the Emir of Ilorin’s clinic and donated drugs worth N3 million to the facility.

He reiterated NAIP’s commitment to sustaining medical outreaches and improving health services for vulnerable groups across Nigeria through continuous community-based healthcare interventions and professional support programmes.

Also speaking, the Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee, Mrs Aina Obafemi, said the association also organised a health walk across Ilorin as part of activities for the national conference.

Obafemi said beneficiaries were screened for blood pressure, blood sugar and malaria, while drugs were distributed free of charge to residents participating in the medical outreach programme.

She said that common conditions recorded during the outreach included hypertension, malaria, diabetes, piles and low body weight, particularly among elderly participants who attended the exercise.

Obafemi commended the Kwara State Government for improvements in healthcare delivery but urged authorities to intensify efforts toward strengthening the health system and expanding access to quality services.

The Kwara NAIP Chairman, Mr Isaac Salami, said the conference theme focused on collaboration and innovation to develop local solutions for Nigeria’s pharmaceutical industry and healthcare challenges.

He said the theme, “Collaboration and Innovation to Build Local Solutions for the Future of Nigeria’s Pharmaceutical Industry,” was timely given current realities facing the sector nationwide.
