Beach Volleyball: We’ll pick ticket for Paris Olympics – Nimrod

Nigeria will pick a ticket in the upcoming qualifiers to feature in the female category of Beach Volleyball in the Paris 2024 Olympics Games, Musa Nimrod, the President, Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), assured on Thursday.

Nimrod also told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the team had been in camp since Monday to prepare ahead of the qualifiers in Morocco.

According to him, the team will train to defeat their opponents and pick the ticket at the qualifiers in Morocco.

“The girls are determined to make the federation and country proud to participate in Olympics.

“They are vibrant young girls, they are ready to put all their efforts to make sure they defeat any team that come in their way.

“They were defeated by Kenya an Egypt in African Games in Ghana, but this time around they will give a good fight to beat any team so that they can pick a ticket for the Olympics,’’ he said.

He assured that the team of young players would qualify for the 2024 Olympics in spite of “several challenges’’.

He said the team would undergo a West Africa tour to intensify training ahead of Paris 2024 games.

“The preparation is on; we will be going on West African tour next week. They will be going to Accra, Ghana; Lome, Cotonou and then back to Badagry for their final camping.

“We are hoping that, this time around, our team will be there to represent the country in Paris 2024 Olympics,’’ he said.

VMT NEWS reports that the women’s beach volleyball team won a bronze medal at the 13th African Games in Ghana to book a place in the qualifiers.

The beach volleyball players currently in camp included Esther Mbah (Nasarawa State University), Pamela Bawa (NY Spikers, Abuja) and Francisca Ikheidefrom (Nigeria Customs Service).

Others are: Naomi Yaro and Sarah Sanda (Kada Emeralds), Ifunanya Udeagbala (Anambra Queens), Sharon Sunday (Kada Princess), Agape Sunday (Destiny Spikers) and Blessing Lawrence (Peace Spikers).

Their coaches are: Kayode Ajilore and Christiana Amadi.

The host nation, France, were automatically granted one out of the 24 spots, while the United States – winners of the 2023 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships – also secured a spot.

The winners of each of the five continental confederations’ Olympic qualification events earn one spot respectively.

VMT NEWS reports that the continental beach volleyball qualifiers will hold from June 19 to June 23 in Casablanca, Morocco.
