CHILDREN PARLIAMENT COMMENDS ZAMFARA GOVERNOR FOR SIGNING OF CHILD PROTECTION LAW 

The Zamfara Children’s Parliament on Thursday commended Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara for signing Child Protection Law in the state.

The Parliament also hailed Zamfara

state house of assembly for passing the bill before the governor’s assent.

The Speaker of the Parliament, Sa’adatu Muhammad Lawal made the commendation in Gusau at an event for the commemoration of 2022 International Day for Girl Child.

The event was organised by the state Ministry for Women and Children Affairs in collaboration with Save the Children International (SCI) an NGO.

The event has a theme “Our Time is Now, Our Right, Our Future”.

She said Zamfara government and state house of assembly should be commended for their role in protection the future of children in the state.

“It is our hope that the Law will guarantee the rights of children in the state in various sectors of development.

“As we all know, girl’s children have the right to be included in all  sectors of human development.

“We appreciate the motherly role played by the state ministry for women and children affairs in achieving the great successes of having the law in the state”, The Speaker explained.

She commended SCI for being supportive to the parliament.

According to her alot have been achieved through various programmes and advocacies of the parliament being supported by the SCI.

In their separate remarks, the State Head of Service, Alhaji Kabiru Gayari and Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Women and Children Affairs, Dr Barira Ibrahim reiterated state government’s commitments to girl’s child education and development.

Gayari assured that the state government will continue partnering with international Organizations in child protection, development and survival.

Hajiya Barira Ibrahim urged girl children to focus on education.

 “I am calling on you my children, you should utilize all the opportunities given to you by your parents.

Also speaking, the SCI official, Mr Nura Muhammad, described the theme of the event as a timely and welcome development as it concern on future of girl children.

“SCI being funded by the Ukaid and Foreign Commonwelth Development Office (FCDO) were ever ready to contribute to the child development in the state.

“Girls is a big asset to the society, they are the good future mothers of the society”, Muhammad explained.

In his remarks, the Provost, Zamfara College of Science and Art (ZACAS), Dr Yakubu Sanusi called for equal opportunities for women to acquire education.

Sanusi who presented a paper at the event, tittled “Role of Education in the Life of a Girl Child” noted that girls education will reduce gender inequality in education opportunities.

“Education opportunities should be given to all, irrespective of gender.

“We should have a society where women contribute to our future development”, he said.
