COAS woos private sector to transform army healthcare
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has intensified efforts to modernise Nigerian Army healthcare through strategic public-private partnerships.
Shaibu made this known on Thursday in Abuja when he received a high-level delegation led by former COAS, Retired Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai.
This is contained in a statement by the acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele.
He said the health and wellbeing of personnel and their families remained central to his “Soldier First” concept.
He added that investment in quality healthcare was critical to personnel welfare, operational readiness, morale and combat effectiveness.
According to him, a healthy and well-supported force is fundamental to transforming the army into a professional, adaptable and combat-ready institution.
The COAS welcomed credible partnerships capable of bringing investment, expertise, technology and innovative healthcare solutions to complement government efforts.

He said the proposed collaboration would strengthen medical facilities and improve healthcare delivery to personnel and their families.
Shaibu said such investments would ultimately enhance the army’s capacity to effectively respond to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
He said “the initiative underscores the army’s growing reliance on credible private-sector expertise and investment to modernise critical infrastructure and strengthen personnel welfare.”
The delegation comprised representatives of Honey Star Resources Ltd., M&P, Elevate Egypt and the League of African Ambassadors.
The engagement focused on developing and upgrading army hospitals, providing modern medical equipment and strengthening pharmaceutical support.
It also explored deployment of digital health solutions across Nigerian Army medical establishments to improve healthcare access and resilience.
