FA Cup: LSFA won’t tolerate indiscipline- Akinwumi

The Lagos Football Association (LSFA) has warned  that it would not  tolerate indiscipline from teams, players or officials playing in the state’s FA Cup.

Mr Seyi Akinwinmi,Chairman of the association, gave the warning at a news conference, to prelude the 2023 Winners Golden Bet (WGB)/ LSFA Cup  on Friday in Lagos.

Akinwunmi said that strict measures and sanctions would be meted out to any erring team or official.

The LSFA boss disclosed that 80 male and female clubs had registered to participate in the state’s FA Cup,the oldest football competition in the country.

“The tournament is scheduled to kick-off on Feb. 18, in five centres spread across the state.

“The 2023 WGB/ LSFA Cup will kick-off this week across selected venues, with no fewer than 80 teams battling for the titles in the male and female categories.

“75 male and five female teams were drawn to compete in the tournament. I want to assure the participating teams on fair officiating and better organised competition this year.

“I want to also drum it to our ears that we will not condone indiscipline from teams, players or officials. Any team, player or official that exhibit any form of indiscipline will be sanction,” he said

He, however, commended the title sponsor of the competition for its unflinching support in elevating the standard of football in the state.

On his part  the Director General, Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Oluwatoyin Gafaar, urged the teams to play according to the rules of the tournament.

“I want to urge you all to play to the rule of the game.The players and team officials should ensure that they are not unruly on and off the pitch.

”| also want to call on  the referees to be fair and firm in decision-taking during matches,” he said.

Remilekun Bademosi of WGB,tournament sponsor, said the company was delighted to support football development in the state.

According to him, the WGB would reward outstanding players and give out branded jerseys to teams from the quarterfinal stage.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that five Centres, spread across the state, have been selected to host matches.

The venues are: Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan; Strong Towers Academy, Ikorodu; Nathaniel Idowu Football Pitch, Ajegunle; Abati Barracks Pitch, Ojuelegba and Legacy Pitch, National Stadium, Surulere.
