Group wants state of emergency declare on power sector

The Nigeria Consumer Protection Network has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in the power sector.

Mr Kunle Olubiyo, President Nigeria Consumer Protection Network made the appeal in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, while reacting to the incessant national grid collapse.

Olubiyo appealed to the president to as a matter of urgency review the power sector privatisation for the evidently pronounced failure.

”You recalled that the power sector was privatised in 2013 with embedded design for mid-term review in 2018 and review of the 10 years Moratorium in 2013, ”he said.

According to him, the present state of overwhelming wide spread darkness being experienced in about nine northern states was nothing but a global embarrassment.

He listed the states to include Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Benue, Katsina, Taraba, Gombe, and parts of Borno and Nasarawa States.

”This deserves a firm and proactive Presidential directive/ Executive order on the power sector,”he said.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on Tuesday, attributed the power outage in the north to tipping of its 330 KV Ugwaji–Apir double circuit transmission lines 1 and 2.
