HYPPADEC to expend N1.7bn on 40-yr-old Yauri water works,to start bidding of tender Jan. 19 – MD

The Managing Director of Hydro Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC), Alh. Abubakar Sadiq-Yelwa, says that the commission will announce the bidding of tender of N1.7 billion for 20-year-old Yauri water works for any company to bid for it rehabilitation on Jan.19, 2023. 

Sadiq-Yelwa stated this after a stakeholders meeting in Yauri town on maintenance of the facilities in their area on Thursday. 

“The projects is about N1.7 billion which is designed to expand the project from initial one million litres of water to additional one million litres capacity.

“The community has given their commitment to start paying for water given to them. 

“We decided to have this meeting as a prerequisite for the signing of the contract because we don’t want to spend huge amount of money as N1.7 billion to provide these services and yet, the services will be left to waste because there is no maintenance,” he added.

Sadiq-Yelwa said that the money generated would be used to maintain the facilities by the water board.

“The people will continued to enjoy the provision of the water in their households if the community is paying for the water they are consuming,” the MD said.

Earlier, the Chairman Governing Council Project Monitoring Committee of HYPPADEC, Prof. S.M Kanam,  commended the host communities for their commitment towards maintenance and protection of the projects in their domain.

They were in the state to inspect some of the projects executed by the commission in different communities of the state.

“We started this tour of inspecting these projects from Birnin Kebbi, Jega, Illo, Argungu and now we are in Yauri. 

“We don’t just stop at the city centers, we entered the nooks and crannies of the village

“I can tell you that, it is true that HYPPADEC is providing projects of various kind to the people.

“There are projects In the area of health, agriculture, road network, power and street lights and we are not only inspecting these projects but we ensure that they are up to the standard.

“HYPPADEC as the Federal Government’s commission must do projects that are more standard than that of local governments and state governments. So, these are some of the things we have come out to inspect.

“We also want to ascertain that the final users, the people, are going to utilize them,” he said.

Kanam commended the commitment of the people in the area for their readiness in the making sure the projects would be maintained in their area.
