Israel again calls for holistic approach to ending terrorism

The Israeli Embassy in Nigeria has reiterated the need for holistic approach to ending terrorist attacks.

Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, reiterated the call in Abuja during screening of the documentary “We Will Dance Again” directed by Yariv Mozer, shown to commemorate the first anniversary of the Oct. 7, 2023 attack by Hamas where scores of Israelis were killed and some others taken hostage during the Nova Music festival in the country.

Freeman, who is also the Permanent Representative of Israel to ECOWAS, recounted the ordeal of the massacre, saying hostilities by terrorists will continue if collective measures were not taken globally to stop such.

“The world needs to stand together against terrorism. Terrorism will not stop in Israel. We have seen radical terrorism here in Nigeria and other parts of the world like in Israel

“We have learnt that when it starts in Israel it never finishes there. Countries that face terrorism need to work together and be united to stop it.

“I promise you the terrorists are all working together. Terrorists do not recognise borders. They do not recognise the states or any other thing.

“So, we all need to come together, share our expertise and work together to stop terrorism.

“Israel is ready to share and work together with anybody who wants to tackle and stop terrorism,“ the ambassador said.

He recounted the ordeal of the massacre, saying that the country would continue to honour the victims of the Oct. 7 attack, put measures in place to revive its economy,  and restore normalcy.

According to him,  on Oct. 7, 2023, everything changed. Israel faced one of the darkest and most horrific moments in its modern history as families have been torn apart with generations of Israelis bearing the scars of that day.

“Today, we come together to remember the horrific events of that day and in particular, the massacre at the Nova Festival meant to be a celebration of life, music and peace.

“Therefore, the screening of the documentary is to mark one year anniversary of Israel as a society that is traumatised but recovering and whose economy is now strong and rebuilt.

“We have shown amazing resilience. The Jewish people have been in terrible tragedy in the past and we have come out of it, and have moved on, recovered and rebuilt.

“Israel will mourn and we will recover, and we will rebuild and ensure that this hostilities doesn’t happen again. We still emerge stronger and more importantly, the people in the region,” he added.

He disclosed that the Israeli government has launched an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the terrorist attack, to learn from what happened and put in place everything needed to ensure it does not reoccur.

He added that there is no time frame yet for the inquiry.
