Joint Tax Board Honours Fowler, Tata, Others
The *Joint Tax Board* has honoured the past Chairperson of FIRS *Mr. Tunde Fowler*, former Chair, of Gombe State Internal Revenue Service, *Inuwa Abubakar Tata*, Deputy Governor, Delta State, *Monday John Onyeme* and a host of others in its 2024 Send-Off Dinner and Award Night held at *Congress Hall, Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja*.
The event was held during the *154th Meeting of the Joint Tax Board* and had in attendance the representative of the Executive Chairman, FIRS, former Chairmen of the FIRS, former and serving Executive Secretaries of the JTB, former Chairmen of State Internal Revenue Services, and the current Chairmen of sub-nationals IRS including the Chairman, Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele.
Mr. Inuwa Tata’s award was in *appreciation of his invaluable contributions towards actualizing the vision of the Joint Tax Board* during his tenure as Executive Chair, of Gombe State Internal Revenue Service. As an active member of the JTB, Mr. Inuwa cleared all outstanding JTB liabilities (Annual Subscription) running into millions of naira when he took over the mantle of leadership of the State Revenue Service.
He served as member of the *Finance and General-Purpose Committee of the JTB* and a representative of Northeast Chairs of IRS at the *JTB Special Committee on Inter-Agency Collaboration for Effective Tax Compliance by Political Office Holders* which comprises the INEC, ICPC, CCB, and the JTB, among many other committees.
He also represented the Northeast region on the State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability Program (SFTAS) of the *Nigeria Governor’s Forum* in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Finance.

Mr. Inuwa is a Public Financial Management Specialist and a reformer who conducted end-to-end revenue reforms from taxpayer registration to tax enforcement by capturing over *85,000 property owners in the IRS digital tax net (G-TIN) and by establishing the Gombe State Revenue Recovery Tribunal
while still superintending the Public Financial Management Reform at the *Fiscal Responsibility Commission*. He was the first Revenue and Tax Administrator who opted out on his own volition to consolidate his reforms at the *Fiscal Responsibility Commission* before the end of his secondment.
Mr. Inuwa was the longest-serving political appointee under Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya who spent four uninterrupted years as Chair of State Fiscal Watchdog.
