Kano mob kills almajiri teenager for beheading six-year-old boy

The Kano community was rocked by a tragic incident as a mob reportedly lynched a 16-year-old almajiri, identified as Abdullahi, over allegations of beheading a six-year-old boy named Mohammed Saidu.

The harrowing event unfolded in Kanwa village, Madobi LGA, prompting swift action from the police, who have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the brutal killing.

According to the police commissioner in Kano, Usaini Gumel, the young victim, Saidu, was allegedly killed by Abdullahi, who was seen wielding a blood-stained knife in Kanwa village.

A search ensued, leading to the discovery of Saidu’s headless body in a nearby primary school.

Efforts to prevent vigilante justice were futile, as angry residents overwhelmed the attempts to protect Abdullahi, ultimately subjecting him to mob violence before authorities could intervene.

Despite efforts to save him, Abdullahi succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Kwankwaso Cottage Hospital.

In a shocking revelation, the suspect confessed to the crime upon police interrogation, disclosing that he disposed of the victim’s head in a pit toilet adjacent to the primary school.

The remains of the victim were recovered and taken to the hospital for examination before being released to his grieving relatives for burial.

This tragic incident underscores the urgent need for measures to address the root causes of such violence and vigilantism in communities. It also highlights the vulnerability of children, particularly those living in marginalised circumstances like the almajiris, and the imperative of ensuring their safety and welfare.

As investigations continue, the scars left by this horrific event will linger in the hearts and minds of the affected community, serving as a grim reminder of the devastating consequences of unchecked violence and mob justice.
