Kidnapped Kogi Chief Imam regains freedom

Sheikh Quasim Musa, the Chief Imam of Iyara in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, has been released from captivity by his abductors. The prominent religious leader was kidnapped on Monday, March 25, 2024, from his residence in Ilukpa, Iyara.

Reports indicate that unknown gunmen carried out the abduction, arriving at the Imam’s house in a commando-style operation, firing shots into the air before seizing him and fleeing the scene.

Confirming the release, Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, announced the Imam’s freedom in a brief message to the media on Saturday morning.

He stated, “This is to inform you that the Chief Imam of Iyara Central Mosque Alhaji Qosim, who was earlier kidnapped regained his freedom yesterday night.”

The safe return of the Imam brings relief to his community and underscores the ongoing challenges of insecurity in the region. Authorities continue to work towards ensuring the safety of citizens and combating criminal activities in the area.
